Make the most of your day out with a range of activities to suit difficult weather conditions
What can you do?
A typical half day session:
You’ll arrive at our base in Cullercoats, where we’ll check your group in and then size them up for wetsuits and buoyancy aids. We have two large changing tents as well as individual pop-up tents to help to speed up the changing process, to maximise time spent out on the water! With all hands on deck to get the craft to the beach, we’ll then begin your session.
We’ll start with either beach or sea based warm up games and then crack on with the rotation of water sports activities, ensuring that everyone gets to try a bit of everything. We usually do a rotation of four activities, for example that could be bringing 32 children / young adults and splitting the group into four (guiding ratio 1:8) where each group does all of the chosen activities for that specific day and conditions. The typical water based choices are; single kayaking, single paddle boarding, tandem kayaking and the XL SUP.
As our playground is the North Sea, we are well practised when it comes to changeable weather and have a number of tricks up our sleeve to help avoid disappointment when conditions are challenging. In addition to the above activities, we can do bodyboarding and/or bodysurfing, pier jumps, snorkelling, rescue skills, beach games and our funky silent disco! With all of these options available, there is plenty of flexibility so that you can make the most of your time with us without having to cancel.
After a couple hours of fun, we’ll head back up to the base with the craft and our sea- salty smiles! You’ll have time to get changed and warm up before heading home with some exciting stories to tell.

50% deposit
To secure your reservation, an initial deposit of 50% is required. The balance is then due 14 days prior to your booking date with confirmation of final numbers. At this point, we will firm up the session itinerary and staffing requirements, based on your confirmed numbers and anticipated weather forecast, working in collaboration with you.
Please be aware, once we have received confirmation of final numbers, we are unable to issue any refunds for no shows on the day or late cancellations. We understand this may seem unfair, however, as a small business operating with high standards, there is a significant level of planning and preparation that goes into our sessions in advance, as well as staffing costs to consider. Please refer to our cancellation policy for further information.
Free staff spaces
We know that these days can be great fun for the teachers as well as kids, and also understand that some kids may feel more comfortable with their teachers on the water with them. To help with this, we are offering one free adult space with every 10 kids spaces booked.
This changes slightly with larger groups, as we have a maximum group capacity of 32 persons, including both children and adults. This is in accordance with our licensing policy, and is something that we have to be quite strict on. So, please be aware that if you would like more adults on the session, they may have to book in externally to the group booking if the group total exceeds 32.
Supporting documentation
Planning an educational visit brings with it a whole host of requirements. Rest assured, we have all the supporting documentation required to help facilitate your visit which will be made available to you upon reservation.
Our online booking system also incorporates an easy-to-use parental participation statement which can be easily shared to all members of your group and completed in advance of your activity.
Not only that, we have a dedicated Education & Groups Manager, Sarah Atkinson, celebrating over 10 years experience at CBK and a former teacher herself, on hand to help answer any queries you may have regarding your visit with us and an experienced team of guides and store support to help get your group checked-in and kitted up as swiftly as possible on the day.
Change in weather conditions
Sometimes the weather will not play ball and we will be required to amend the format of a session. Being located on the North East coast, this is something we are well practised in and should this be deemed necessary, we will always err on the side of caution and consider all aspects of planning to ensure your group get the most out of their time with us whilst maintaining our usual high levels of safety. We have a number of contingency plans in place and will, of course, keep you informed every step of the way.
We will always do our best to get your group out on the water safely and appreciate there is nothing more frustrating than a last minute cancellation or re-scheduling when organising a large group.
Tell us about your group, then we’ll do the rest.
Our dedicated Education & Groups Manager, Sarah, will be in touch as soon as she can to discuss your needs further.
